About the growers: Enjambre Cafetalero is a cooperative in the region of Mexico known as “the Golden Belt” of coffee. There is an extreme level of difficulty in cultivating heirloom varieties in Chiapas using organic practices partly due to the devastating toll of leaf rust throughout Mexico. This co-op is helping small coffee farmers who struggle to make a living wage with just a few acres of land. With micro-lot production, the use of organic compost is an achievable and cost effective means of maintaining proper plant nutrition. These organic practices also provide a protective buffer for precious plant and bird species that make their home in biosphere reserves like Montes Azules and El Triunfo.
