Single Farm, Organically-Grown
Sumatra Mandheling is legendary in the world of coffee. Considered the most full-bodied and complex of all coffees, Sumatra Mandheling delivers heavy, syrupy body and very little acidity. This combination makes for a smooth, velvety, yet pronounced cup of coffee with intense aroma. It’s both earthy and complex with hints of dark chocolate and spice.

About the region: Tradition runs deep in the Takengon highlands, a region acclaimed among coffee experts for its cup profiles and classic Indonesian style of cultivation. Mandheling takes its name from an ethnic group rather than a location. Once lost to the jungles of Sumatra, this specialty coffee was rediscovered after a dramatic history of hardship. It took almost 100 years for this varietal bean to be rediscovered, hidden among the lush jungle undergrowth in the heart of Sumatra. Our roaster, Shawn, had the opportunity to travel to Takengon with Fair Trade USA where he met the amazing farmers and saw first hand the incredible amount of work and care that goes into growing coffee.
